We had a Division 2 Round 1 matchup that had it all as the San Juan Hills Stallions went head-to-head with the Downey Vikings in an instant playoff classic!!!

San Juan Hills came out the gates strong, striking first and setting the tone early. But Downey answered right back with fire, marching down the field and putting together a statement drive to even things up. Both defenses were flying around, making big-time stops and setting the tone with physical play.

Downey started to find momentum behind their ground game, controlling the tempo, and then quarterback Oscar Rios dropped a perfect dime over the top to put points on the board. Add in a clutch kick before halftime, and the Vikings went into the break with the lead and all the energy.

But when the second half hit, things flipped. Mistakes from Downey opened the door, and San Juan Hills capitalized. The Stallions’ run game started pounding away while the passing attack came alive. Quarterback Luke Frith hit a huge 40-plus-yard touchdown to give SJH the lead late in the game.

Downey didn’t go quietly, answering with a late score to go back up by two, but with the game on the line and two minutes left — it all came down to one man. Four-star kicker Kyle Donahue stepped up and delivered the dagger, drilling a last-second field goal to stun Downey and send the Stallions to Round 2 in dramatic fashion.
