The North Coast 500 is described as Scotland's answer to Route 66. It's a scenic route of just over 500 miles (800km) following the coast around the far north of mainland Scotland, starting and finishing at Inverness Castle.
The A890 runs for about 32 miles (52km), running cross-country from the A87 at Auchtertyre on the west-coast, to the A832 at Achnasheen, providing an important link between the Isle of Skye and Kyle of Lochalsh to Inverness and the rest of the Highlands. Until the 1970s the route used the Strome Ferry to cross Loch Carron, until a new route was constructed around the south side of the Loch.
This video shows a largely north-eastbound journey along the A890, from the A896 junction at Strathcarron, to the eastern terminus at the roundabout with the A832 at Achnasheen.
