Walking a Savannah Kitten, Chapter 1

Описание: Hey youtube! Here's my new Savannah kitten Günter, going for a walk!

Gunter is approximately 8 months old now. He's a fixed F3c male "snow" Savannah cat. I got him when he was 6 months old, so he's only had about 6-8 weeks of semi-regular "walks" at this point. Right now his walks consist more of me just letting him cautiously explore all the sights and sounds and smells of the outdoors. He has yet to build confidence in himself and in me protecting him when he's outdoors. While these cats may be very dog-like in many ways, they still do not share the same blind confidence and happy-go-luckiness. It takes time for and indoor-only cat to feel comfortable outdoors. That said, he's doing better than my Bengal did in a shorter time, so I'm confident he'll be as good as my Bengal in no time.

I've actually used my Bengal as a training tool of sorts by putting Günter in a soft-sided carrier while I walked Enzo a few times, just so he got the concept of it. Now he's also learning where I keep the leash and to go bonkers every time he (or Enzo) think I'm getting near it. I can't even go into my closet anymore without them going bonkers!

I have not and probably won't try walking them together for a while. I can just see that going badly in many ways. I'd probably first start try walking them together with someone else holding the other leash. It would be hell to manage if they both got spooked with only one person holding the leashes.

We've upgraded to a 45lb retractable dog leash. This makes me a lot more confident he has zero chance of breaking the leash.

You might notice a big "thing" on Günter's collar in the beginning of the video. That's a Loc8tor tracking tag in a silicone water-resistant sleeve, attached to his collar. I highly recommend this. It's saved me big headaches when my Bengal escaped in the past.

Video shot with a GoPro HD Hero 3 "Black" in 2.7k/30fps. That monstrous file was then run through Cineform Studio and transcoded to 1080p/30fps uncompressed AVI. Then I transcoded to Windows Media (WMV) in the highest quality settings I could use. The results? Beautiful. This little camera is amazing!
