Truss in India on first overseas trip as UK FM

Описание: (22 Oct 2021) British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss began a two day trip to India on Friday, a visit aimed at deepening between both countries ties in areas such as the economy, technology, security and climate change.
Speaking at a meeting between delegations in New Delhi, Truss told her counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar that Britain viewed India as a crucial partner and fellow democracy.
"We have, I think, a huge opportunity to deepen our relationship in a number of areas, whether it's security and defense, whether it's technology, whether it's health," Truss said, extending congratulations on India reaching the milestone of vaccinating one billion people against COVID-19.
About half of India’s nearly 1.4 billion people have received at least one dose while around 20% are fully immunized, according to Our World in Data.
Truss is expected to announce a 50.4 million pound investment for green technology infrastructure and 11.5-million pounds for two venture capital funds to help India move to cleaner energy, as well as 500,000 pounds to join British and Indian laboratories to work towards net zero targets in main industries.
Jaishankar for his part said both countries had "significant momentum" in various areas, including trade, which was Truss's previous post before taking over as Foreign Secretary from Dominic Raab in September.
"Today's meeting, I think, is very useful because it gives us a chance to review the progress on the roadmap 2030 that was agreed to between our prime ministers," he said.
In May, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi agreed a 2030 Roadmap to provide a framework for UK-India relations.
