Handrails components: Scroll and Wreath & Scroll and Easer
Hello! In this video we are going to go through the basics of installing some of our handrails components: the scroll and wreath and the scroll and easer. Let’s begin!
To ensure you are ordering the right components (either left or right side), simply stand at the bottom of your staircase looking up and whichever side the handrail is on, is the side that you need.
This is how you will receive your scroll and wreath or your scroll and easer, depending on which you’ve ordered.
The parts and their installation
The scroll and wreath: this is the scroll, wreath, some slipping, a handrail bolt, and fitting instructions.
The scroll and easer: you have the scroll, easer, and a piece of slipping which is careful cut so it will follow the shape of the easer.
What is the difference between the Scroll and Wreath & Scroll and Easer?
The difference between the Scroll and Wreath & Scroll and Easer is that the scroll and wreath has a more gradual turn dialling to the scroll, while the scroll and easer, the handrail comes straight down and then it scrolls.
Scroll and wreath: stairs’ pitch and measurements
The scroll and wreath are machined to suit a staircase with a 42o pitch, but can be easily adjusted to suit staircases varying from 38o to 42o. You simply adjust the wreath to suit, and sand the scroll at the joint.
The measurement for the scroll and wreath are: 250 mm and from the inside of the handrail to the outside of the scroll it’s 310 mm. These measurements are the minimum size for your curtail step.
What are the fitting details of a scroll and easer?
The scroll and easer comes with fitting instructions. These explain how to find the position you will need to cut the easer and the angle of this cut. The measurements for the scroll and easer are 250 mm by 300 mm from the inside of the handrail to the outside of the scroll. These measurements are the minimum size for your curtail step.
How can you order these?
You can order your scroll and wreath or scroll and easer as individual components, or you can order them in kit form. In the kit, you will receive the scroll and wreath, or easer, scroill spindles, scroll spindles connectors, and a handrail bolt.
The scroll spindles have a 25 mm dowel in the top and are pre-drilled in the base for the scroll connectors. One of the spindles has a bolt and nut pre-installed in the dowel and this connects straight in the scroll, allowing you to tighten down the knot and then sit a small plug on top.
The scroll spindles connectors are comprised of two components: a treaded insert which goes into the step and a bolt which goes into the pre-drilled hole in the bottom of your spindles.
The handrail bolt is simply used to connect the handrail to your scroll and wreath or your scroll and easer.
