Railfanning Roseville - 10/27/17

Описание: Finally, after longed anticipation, I decided to return to Roseville to definitively railfan all action that would pass by here. Although I did not originally plan to see anything special, I was surprisingly treated to a number of specialties including a UP Passenger Special, SD59MXs, and numerous train movements in addition to lots of horn action and friendly crews. The Station is situated at the very eastern portion of the UP’s Roseville Yard, also known as the J.R. Davis Yard. The Yard sits at the convergence of three UP Subdivisions, with the Valley Sub from the north, the Roseville Sub (Donner Pass) from the east, and the Martinez Sub from the west. Additionally, in Sacramento, the UP Fresno and sometimes Sacramento Sub traffic will converge onto the Martinez Sub headed for the Roseville Yard, making for a lot of rail traffic. Due to the location of the station, most activity seen in the video comprises of either power moves, terminating manifests, or through freight, whereas most freight sorting is done at the western portion of the Yard. Furthermore, the wye where the Valley Sub converges is also used as a way to turn consists around, as seen with some switching activities. Granted that the Roseville Yard currently stands as the biggest rail facility on the West Coast of the U.S., it is in my opinion that it would only be befitting to have an equally long and action packed video to fully illustrate the amount of trains that pass through here on a daily basis.

Train 1 : Manifest Switching with SD70M #4343 & SD59MX #9918. This train will return back into the yard after a couple of other trains have passed.

Train 2 : ZOAG2-27 with C45ACCTE #7883, #5281, SD70M #5028, & #4062.

Train 3 : Amtrak 5 (California Zephyr) with P42DC #160 & #72. Friendly crew on this train !

Train 4 : Power Move with C45ACCTE #7832, C44ACCTE #6049, C45AH #2605, SD70M #4725, & C45ACCTE #5384.

Train 5 : Power Move with C45ACCTE #5274 & #5250. Nice conductor. 14:30

Train 6 : MRVNP-27 with C45AH #2659, C45ACCTE #7838, SD70M #4193, C44AC #6296(Mid-DPU), & C45ACCTE #5277(Mid-DPU). A rather long train !

Train 7 : ZNPOA-26 with SD70AH #9080, C45AH #2731, SD70M #4010, & #3973. Nice K5LLA action entering the Yard !

Train 8 : GSFGPX-25 with C44ACCTE #5972, AC60CW #7052, & C44ACCTE #5944(DPU).

Train 9 : PSPOA-27 with SD70AH #8953 & #3040. After arriving into Roseville, this train consist will be switched out with different UP passenger cars that will be brought to #3040 later in the day.

Train 10 : Passenger Car Switching with SD70ACe #8953. #8953 will switch out two passenger cars (Stanford #140 & Sunset #150) for maintenance and consist setup for a different passenger train including uncoupling and recoupling in addition to turning the consist on the wye. This process will span a fair amount during my stay here. 32:35

Train 11 : LRV65-27 (Redding Turn) with SD59MX #9912, SD70M #4588, SD59MX #9907, & GP60 #1068. This train came down the Valley Sub but diverted onto the Roseville Sub, primarily to back the train into the yard rather than engine first.

Train 12 : CLRBR9-27 with C45ACCTE #8005, C44AC #6851, & #6409.

Train 13 : Power Move with GP60 #1068. This locomotive was taken off QPWRV-27 for a different assignment after arriving into Roseville.

Train 14 : Power Move with C45ACCTE #5296, C44ACCTE #5605, & C45ACCTE #5275.

Train 15 : ZG2LT-26 with C45AH #2740, SD70ACe #8509, C45ACCTE #7775, & SD70AH #8997. 01:02:00

Train 16 : Power Move with SD70M #4616 & C45ACCTE #8006.

Train 17 : Power Move with C45ACCTE #7515, #5422, C44AC #6189, GP38-2 #567, & #604.

Train 18 : Passenger Car Switching with SD59MX #9924. These passenger cars (Cheyenne #103, City of Salina #5486, & Texas Eagle #5483) will be wyed and attached with Challenger #7015 & #3040, where it will become an outbound UP passenger train the following day. #9924 will uncouple and a new locomotive will be placed on the rear later on.

Train 19 : LRR62-27 (Rocklin Rocket) with GP60 #1090 & GP40-2 #1347.

Train 20 : Power Move with C45ACCTE #7885, #5331, & #7638. 01:17:50

Train 21 : Amtrak 536 with CabCar #8301 & F59PHI #2002. The only eastbound Capitol Corridor train of the day arrives into Roseville accompanied with the adjacent railroad activity.

Train 22 : Power Move with SD59MX #9924. After coupling the passenger cars to the back of #3040, #9924 uncouples and heads back for its next assignment.

Train 23 : Power Move with SD70ACe #8348, C45ACCTE #7479, SD70ACe #8453, & #8796. Nice conductor.

Train 24 : IOGOA-26 with C45ACCTE #7382, SD70M #4536, #5202, C45ACCTE #7647(DPU), & #5268(DPU). With the sun setting in the distance, the trains sure do keep on coming.

Train 25 : Power Move with SD70M #4626, C44-9W #9775, & #9774. Although the daylight is fading and the end of day approaches ever nearer, as with any railroad, the activity still continues on with the hard work of men and women who keep the trains moving.
