Описание: The fish fair in Poil village of Habiganj district is a traditional and popular folk festival in Bangladesh, especially held on the occasion of Paush Sankranti (the last day of the Bengali month of Paush). It is not just a commercial market — rather, it is also known as a festival of tradition, social gathering and culture that has been going on for centuries.

🐟 History and Origin of the Fair

📌 Tradition:
• This fish fair has been held in Poil village for about 200 years or more.
• According to the locals, it started from the mudflats and has been passed down from generation to generation as a continuous tradition.
• The fair is basically organized on the last day of the month of Paush — on the occasion of Paush Sankranti, that is, this time of the year was the peak season for fishing and fish supply.

📌 Historical Environment:
• As Poil village is the birthplace of Bipin Chandra Pal, a famous leader during the soldier and freedom movement, the historical importance of this region is also associated with the fair.

📅 When is it held?
• This fair is organized every year on the occasion of Paush Sankranti (the last day of the Bengali month of Pooj) — usually in mid-January.

🎣 Features of the fair

🐠 Variety of fish:
• Various indigenous fish found in Bengali waters are seen and sold here in one place — such as Boal, Ai, Chital, Gajar, Rui, Katal, Pabda, Magur, etc.

💰 Unique attractions:
• Many times, the prices of large fish at the fair are sold for lakhs of taka — for example, the price of 40–60 kg Baghai fish has been found to be more than 1 lakh taka.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Crowd:
• Thousands of people come from not only Habiganj, but also from Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Sunamganj, Kishoreganj and Brahmanbaria to see the fair and buy fish.

🎉 Festival Gathering:
• The fair is not just about fish trading — there are various stalls selling food, toys, handicrafts, household items, etc., which create a festive atmosphere.

হবিগঞ্জ জেলার পইল (Poil) গ্রামের মাছের মেলা বাংলাদেশের এক ঐতিহ্যবাহী ও জনাকর্ষক লোকজ উৎসব, বিশেষ করে পৌষ সংক্রান্তি (বাংলা মাস পৌষের শেষদিন) উপলক্ষে অনুষ্ঠিত হয়ে থাকে। এটি শুধু একটি বাণিজ্যিক বাজার নয় — বরং এটি শতাব্দীর পর শতাব্দী ধরে চলে আসা ঐতিহ্য, সামাজিক মিলন ও সংস্কৃতির এক উৎসব হিসেবেও পরিচিত।

📌 ঐতিহ্য:
• এই মাছের মেলা প্রায় ২০০ বছর বা তারও বেশি সময় ধরে পইল গ্রামে পালন হয়ে আসছে।
• স্থানীয়দের কথায়, এটি পলিপ্রান্ত থেকে শুরু হয়ে প্রজন্ম থেকে প্রজন্ম এক ধারাবাহিক ঐতিহ্য হিসেবে চলে আসছে।
• মূলত মেলা গড়ে উঠেছে পৌষ মাসের শেষ দিন — পৌষ সংক্রান্তি উপলক্ষে, অর্থাৎ বছরের ঠিক এই সময়টি ছিল মাছ ধরা ও মাছের সরবরাহের পিক সিজন।

📌 ঐতিহাসিক পরিবেশ:
• পইল গ্রামটি সৈন্য ও স্বাধীনতা আন্দোলনের সময়কার বিখ্যাত নেতা বিপিন চন্দ্র পালের জন্মস্থান হওয়ায় এই অঞ্চলের ঐতিহাসিক গুরুত্বও মেলার সঙ্গে যুক্ত।

📅 কখন হয়?
• প্রতি বছর পৌষ সংক্রান্তি (বাংলা পুঁজ মাসের শেষ দিন) উপলক্ষে এই মেলার আয়োজন করা হয় — সাধারণত জানুয়ারির মাঝামাঝি সময়ে।

🎣 মেলার বৈশিষ্ট্য

🐠 মাছের বৈচিত্র্য:
• বাংলা পানিতে পাওয়া বিভিন্ন দেশীয় মাছ এখানে এক জায়গায় দেখা ও বিক্রি হয় — যেমন বোয়াল, আইড়, চিতল, গজার, রুই, কাতল, পাবদা, মাগুর ইত্যাদি।

💰 অনন্য আকর্ষণ:
• অনেক সময়ই মেলায় বড় বড় মাছের দাম লক্ষাধিক টাকা ধরে হাঁকা হয় — যেমন ৪০–৬০ কেজির বাঘাই মাছের দাম ১ লাখ টাকারও বেশি ধরা হয়েছে।

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 জনসমাগম:
• শুধু হবিগঞ্জ নয়, সিলেট, মৌলভীবাজার, সুনামগঞ্জ, কিশোরগঞ্জ ও ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়া থেকে হাজার হাজার মানুষ মেলা দেখতে ও মাছ কেনার জন্য আসে।

• মেলা শুধু মাছের ব্যবসা নয় — এখানে খাবার, খেলনা, হস্তশিল্প, গৃহস্থালি জিনিসপত্র সহ বিভিন্ন পসরা থাকে, যা একটি উৎসবের আমেজ তৈরি করে।
