This extensive video goes through the steps starting at day one to make wine out of grape juice. You can make wine out of generic grape juice or you can make wine out of Welch's grape juice - it is all the same.
The video covers the required ingredients along with some optional ingredients. Requirements include a fermentation container, an air lock, a stirring rod, grape juice, and a packet of yeast. Required "wine stabilizer" called Potassium Sorbate is needed at the end. Optional items include sugar and a fining/clearing agent called sparkolloid.
Some of the "chemistry" is shown by using a hydrometer to show the "specific gravity" of grape juice by itself and when four pounds sugar is added to approximately six gallons of grape juice. Specific gravity aids in determining your expected alcohol content if the fermentation is allowed to completely use all of the sugar in the wine.
The wine is left to sit and ferment. After about 12 days, it is moved into a "secondary fermenter" to finish the fermenting. This step is not required, but it allows us to get some of the "crud" that has settled to the bottom removed from the wine. During this process is when the sparkolloid powder is added to help clear the wine further.
The wine is then moved back to the original fermenting container after several weeks. This is when the Potassium Sorbate is added to ensure all of the yeast is neutralized. We also remove more "crud" that has collected at the bottom of the carboy (fermenting container).
Lastly, we add more sugar back into the wine after approximately a week (optional process). Without adding sugar back in, the wine will be a dry wine. I prefer a sweeter wine so this process is shown.
