Goa Cabinet Approves Temporary Status, Pay Hike for 3,000 Daily Wage Workers

Описание: In a significant move aimed at improving the working conditions of long-serving daily wage workers, the Goa Cabinet on Monday approved a new scheme that grants Temporary Status to those who have completed over seven years of continuous service in government departments, corporations, and municipal bodies.

The decision is expected to benefit around 3,000 workers, including approximately 800 sanitation (Safai) workers, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced following the cabinet meeting.

Under the scheme, eligible workers will receive enhanced pay starting August 1, 2025—₹20,000 per month for support staff and ₹25,000 for clerical and technical staff. They will also be entitled to a 3% annual increment, leave benefits, and Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) contributions.

In a major policy shift, CM Sawant also declared a ban on future daily wage hiring outside the Goa Human Resource Development Corporation (GHRDC). “Henceforth, there will be no appointments of daily wage workers outside GHRDC,” he asserted.

The scheme is projected to cost the state government approximately ₹4 crore annually.
