Bakring is a fisher who saves sea turtles his neighbors catch by mistake. He’s been at it for four years, because he doesn’t want them to go extinct.
Sea turtles are protected under Indonesian law, and a turtle may get eaten simply because a fisher doesn’t know how to get rid of it without attracting the attention of law enforcement. Indonesia is home to six of the world’s seven sea turtle species. These species are classified as endangered or vulnerable by the IUCN.
Bakring feeds and cares for them until they recover before releasing them back into the wild.
