My 50 year old calculator still works like new. It's slow but gets there in the end... more or less. Its a lovely machine, well looked after, all it needed was a clean.
Built in week 42 of 1972, this machine is 50 years old today. All the discharge tubes are intact and bright. Sanyo were always reducing the parts and this is part way between the 4 chip solution to a single chip solution that followed in 1973. This model came in 3 issues, this is the earliest one, later ones had a green VFD display.
Set to two decimal places, you can still use this machine daily for financial calculations. Just watch put for bugs.... you can get the wrong answer particularly if you press keys during a calculation. The keyboard has capacitors to prevent double triggering but as the capacitance has reduced over 50 years you can interrupt a slow calculation and get garbage. That makes me love it more not less. I have a seperate video at high framerate showing it doing a long division, you can see it working it out on tge display!
