For me, I had spent my entire professional career after university at a startup.

We BARELY had levels and different roles after the 8 years that I was there... We were still figuring out how we wanted to do that effectively.

For me, my role had changed slightly over the years but there was no real "promotion" at any point because things just evolved naturally.

For me to get into Microsoft at Principal level probably looks very different than many others. And your own journey will look different too.
