Jonathan Stout - "You Brought a New Kind of Love to Me" - 1932 Gibson L-5

Описание: After being sidelined from making guitar videos since December because of bandleading and composition projects, I spent the last couple of days dealing with some computer issues. So after reinstalling Logic and then installing and figuring out Davinci Resolve, here were are.

Thanks to one of our sax players, Nate Ketner, to turning me on this tune from 1930, “You Brought a New Kind of Love to Me”. I recorded the rhythm track using my 1939 Gibson L-5, and then the chord melody, single note chorus, and a chord-solo chorus on my 1932 Gibson L-5. Both mic’d up with a @ribbonmics R84A, which just sounds amazing with just a UA6176 channel strip plug-in on each channel, and little reverb.

This style of Chord-melody playing and soloing is my own version of the playing of Allan Reuss, who played with Benny Goodman from 1935-1938 before going onto play with many of the best big bands and combos of the 30's and 40's, before settling into studio work in the late 40's. While there are scant resources for this style of playing, the THIRD volume of my DC-Music School Course is one of best places to start. It contains transcriptions of my improvisations in the Reuss-style over standard tunes, using all of the classic Reuss vocabulary and techniques.
