Horace Walpole’s magnificent Strawberry Hill House | 4K

Strawberry Hill House is a villa located in Twickenham, London, England. It was designed by Horace Walpole (1717–1797), the youngest son of Sir Robert Walpole (1676–1745), the first British Prime Minister. He was a prominent writer and politician. The building is considered to be one of the finest examples of Gothic Revival architecture.

The house was built between 1749 and 1776 and was constantly expanded and decorated by Walpole during his lifetime. It features a range of Gothic elements, including pointed arches, pinnacles, battlements, and stained glass windows.

Strawberry Hill House reopened to the public in 2010 after a £9 million, two-year-long restoration. The project was led by the Strawberry Hill Trust, which aimed to restore the historic fabric of the building and its collections. The restoration work included the conservation of the Gothic plasterwork, windows, and other decorative features of the house, as well as the creation of new visitor facilities.

Today, Strawberry Hill House is considered to be an important landmark in the history of Gothic Revival architecture and is a popular tourist attraction in London.
