At dawn I quit my father’s fire,
With bread, a blade, and foolish ire.
The door closed soft like holding breath,
As if it weighed my odds with death.
The road lay bare, polite, and long,
Too calm to prove my choice was wrong.
My boots were new, my future thin,
Yet something old pulled me within.

I take the road—it bites, it sings,
It steals my sleep, it trades me things.
For every loss, some truth is won,
The road decides who I become.

The forest laughed in lowered tone,
At oaths too grand to stand alone.
The owls kept count, the shadows leaned,
As if they’d seen how this had been.
The river spoke of crowns and pride,
Of kings who crossed and failed to bide.
It said, “Go light, or pay in kind.”
I nodded once and crossed the line.

I chase no crown, no tidy end,
No song where all the notes amend.
I chase the truth that limps and grins,
That costs you more than what it gives.
A feather torn, a mirror flawed,

That loss is part of being free.

If death should take me mid-reply,
Laughing at some half-lived lie,
Let no one say I missed the sign—
I read it clear and crossed the line.
For wonder’s price is never fair,
It takes your plans and trims your prayer,
Yet what it leaves is sharp and true,
A self you didn’t start but grew.
