Update: Sorry, there's almost a minute of nothingness after the video ends. Not sure what I did to get that.
I saw these kindling crackers for sale for over $100 and although I liked the idea, I couldn't justify that sort of money.

It looked fairly straight forward, so I went down to Bunnings and grabbed a little bit of steel and the cheapest hatchet I could find (kind of like this http://amzn.to/2DRL8fM)
I spent just under $20 all up and still have a heap of steel left over.
The hardest part was bending the top piece in to a ring. My sheet metal folder helped, but I'm pretty sure you could get the same result with a hammer and an edge of some sort.
I guess it doesn't even need to be a circle/ring, I was just going off the design I saw.
I was impressed with how well it worked. i've always split kindling with a hatchet, but this gives you a lot more control being able to place the axe exactly where you want to split.
I'm still learning (everything! making, filming, editing, etc), so if you have any comments or feedback for me, I would love to hear it.
I try and do a project every week, so please Subscribe if you'd like to see what I come up with next.
