Most people don't realize that the Great Pyramid of Giza is the only "Ancient Wonder of the World" still fully standing. But in Alexandria, we found the next best thing.
This is the Citadel of Qaitbay. It’s a massive 15th-century fortress guarding the Mediterranean, but the real flex is what it’s built on. This castle sits directly on the ruins of the Great Lighthouse of Alexandria (The Pharos). After earthquakes took the lighthouse down, the Sultan literally recycled the stones to build these walls.
So, while we’re just walking through a cool fort, we’re actually surrounded by the bones of a lost Wonder of the World. Check out the vibes from the library to the sea—Alexandria is easily one of the most slept-on spots in Egypt.
