Tadeusz Faliszewski i Orkiestra Syrena Rekord pod dyr. Iwo Wesby'ego - Stachu! Tango (M.Rudnicki / Z.Drabik), Syrena-Electro 1938
NOTE: Composer of this tango, Marian Rudnicki, was a distinguished conductor of the Grand Theatre orchestra in Warsaw, until the outbreak of World War II in September 1939. He was also a professional consultant for Syrena-Electro's operatic and symphonic recordings. Who knows why he composed this lovely tango? Well, it simply happened, once in his life - as he is not kown to ever have composed anything else of that kind. The song, however, became one of last great tango hits in Poland, just before the great catastrophe, in 1939 when nazi Germany from west, and Soviet Russia from east invaded Poland, crushing its independence, murdering almost 100 percent of its elites and destroying its most beautiful cities, including the capital city. The slideshow tries to catch the split moments of last happy summer of Warsaw, in 1938.
The title „Stachu" is an abbreviated version of „Stanislas". The lyrics are the sentimental invocation to a gone away lover, calling him, ofcourse, to come back. Nothing new, under the sun. What, however, may seem odd to a listener today is the emotional temperature of Faliszewski's voice adressing his love complaints to another man! Yet, we have to remember that in 1920/30s such combination did not have any kind of a homosexual bias. That discrepancy went simply unnoticed by the audience and did not contain any erotic or ambiguous subtext.
