Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (1714-1788) was the 5th son of Johann Sebastian Bach. Carl's second name, Philipp, was given in honour of his godfather, Georg Philipp Telemann. In 1768, after several years as member of the Royal orchestra in Berlin, C.P.E. Bach in fact succeeded his godfather Telemann as director of music (Kapellmeister) in Hamburg. In 1773 Carl Philip composed a series of symphonies for the music-loving baron and patron of the arts, Gottfried von Swieten. This symphony in B-flat is the second in the set of six.
This recording is from a concert in Garnisons Church 7th of March 2015.
