Описание: Interesting old cars do not always have to be something so totally rare in production, or laden with chrome, having huge fins, or engines strong enough to power a small city. Alright then, so what we have here can be called one of the iconic, perhaps cult status vehicles in either case. A 1968 Vollkswagen Beetle came into the life of a fellow car enthusiast, Troy. Troy is the fellow who owns the AMC Matador seen on my channel as well. This offering of a 1968 Beetle is from California, it has an indicated 44,000 miles on it, looking all over the car, top, bottom, there is no reason to believe this is far from the truth. Aside from some minor hacking of the wiring in a few isolated spots, the car, aside from a respraying of paint sometime in the past, is remarkably original. It has been sitting in storage since 2008. With a readjustment of points, we got it running well enough so we could check it out on the local roads.Troy tried it, and then I drove the car. The 'Thumps' you here are of Troy, though restrained by his lap and shoulder belt, are of us going around corners. Volkswagen made millions of VW Beetles, and they served so many people reliably in some of the worst conditions of the world, and were used by so many for unusual stunts and feats. For example, how many people could fit in one, or folks attaching propellers to the back of them and take them into lakes for short jaunts, so tightly sealed (unrusted or damaged) these cars were in the day. We are waiting for the link kits to reattach the camber compensator needed to keep swing axles behaving properly, especially in cross winds and cornering. This Bug is one of the last ones made before Volkswagen offered them with a double jointed rear axle suspension. I love rear engine cars with swing axles going around corners, The rear ends like to do a little dance at times. The lesson is: Know what you swing axle car can do BEFORE you have to learn what it can do in an emergency and drive accordingly, and NEVER lift off the throttle suddenly in the middle of a hard corner. You can suddenly go from a mild scrubbing understeer to the car going off the road backwards in a sudden case of oversteer - and you did not have the car in reverse gear either! Regardless, the camber compensator parts are coming, and Troy will be driving this car in a safe and dignified manner deserved. The car will be set up to be a tribute to 'Herbie' The Love Bug, with the decal stripes, the #53 designation, plus the older style bumpers. Nothing that can't be reversed if it is decided to revert completely back to the stock look. Enjoy the car Troy, the rest of us are enjoying it in our midst. Finally an easy car to park in our midst!
