Brett shows you two methods for rationalizing denominators involving cube and fourth roots, one using radical notation the other using rational (fraction) exponents. Either method works fantastically, so you're free to take your choice!
In the last tutorial, we learned how to rationalize square roots, the fundamental difference between rationalizing square roots and roots of other indices is how many radicals we need to multiply together for the radical to simplify. Square roots required only two identical roots to be multiplied together to produce a non-radical value. Cube roots will require three identical roots to be multiplied together, fourth roots will require four radicals, fifth roots require five, and so on and so forth.
As you can imagine, this can be a bit cumbersome to write out. That's why some people prefer to use the rational exponent notation when rationalizing denominators with higher-order indices.
