In this video, I restore a unique lighter that has become a family heirloom, preserving the memory of a heroic veteran of World War II who participated in Operation "D-Day."

Operation "D-Day" was one of the most significant events of World War II, starting on June 6, 1944, when Allied forces landed on the beaches of Normandy to liberate Europe from Nazi occupation. The veteran, who owned this lighter, played an active role in these historic events, defending freedom.

Decades later, the lighter was forgotten and covered with a layer of patina, left in a box in a garage. The veteran’s grandchildren decided to restore it as a cherished family relic to honor his memory. The lighter is made of brass, with a copper emblem symbolizing the heroism of American soldiers.

The restoration process involved cleaning the lighter from patina, polishing all its components, and repairing the flint mechanism, which remains simple yet reliable. As a result, its functionality and historical value have been fully restored. Now, the lighter looks as good as new and holds a special place alongside front-line photographs of their grandfather.
