Se localiza en la región Costa-Sierra Occidental del estado de Jalisco. Sus municipios colindantes son Tomatlán, Atengo, Cuautla, Mascota, Mixtlán y Talpa de Allende. Tiene una extensión territorial de 819.77 kilómetros cuadrados.

El municipio colinda al norte con los municipios de Mascota y Mixtlán; al este con los municipios de Mixtlán, Atengo y Cuautla; al sur con el municipio de Cuautla; al oeste con los municipios de Talpa de Allende y Mascota.

The municipality of Atenguillo is one of the 125 municipalities of the state of Jalisco, Mexico. Its capital is the town of Atenguillo. It is located in the Costa-Sierra Occidental region of the state of Jalisco. Its neighbouring municipalities are Tomatlán, Atengo, Cuautla, Mascota, Mixtlán and Talpa de Allende. It has a territorial extension of 819.77 square kilometres.

The municipality is bordered to the north by the municipalities of Mascota and Mixtlán; to the east by the municipalities of Mixtlán, Atengo and Cuautla; to the south by the municipality of Cuautla; to the west by the municipalities of Talpa de Allende and Mascota.
