Shri Mundaka Kanniamman temple, Mylapore, Chennai is devoted to Devi Parvathi in the form of Mundaka Kanniamman.
In the olden days, there was a lotus pond at this place. Under the banyan tree on the banks of that pond, Ambal manifested herself in swayambu form.
Initially, the devotees erected a small hut as garba graha for Ambal and worshipped her. Later, an elaborate temple was built. Ambal’s swayambu form at this holy place looks like a lotus bud. Hence, she is called ‘Mundaka Kanniamman’ (‘Mundakam’ means ‘lotus’ in Tamil).
Location: Arulmigu Mundaka Kanniamman Temple, Mylapore, Chennai – 600004.
Timings: 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
