As the largest of a string of islands forming an outcropping of the Niagara Escarpment, it stretches across the entrance of Green Bay, connecting the Door Peninsula to Michigan’s Garden Peninsula. With a year-round population of around 708 (as of the 2010 census) and a land area of approximately 23.5 square miles, Washington Island is Door County’s only year-round island community and a vibrant hub of cultural and historical significance.
