When Interstate 40 and Interstate 44 bypassed Oklahoma City’s historic Route 66 corridor, Classen Boulevard was left abandoned and forgotten. Then came 1975. In the aftermath of the fall of Saigon, thousands of Vietnamese refugees resettled in Oklahoma City, transforming a forgotten stretch of the Mother Road into a thriving cultural hub. Over the following decades, Chinese, Korean, Thai, and other Asian communities joined them, building what is now officially known as the Asian District — one of the most vibrant cultural corridors on all of Route 66.
