Disc replacement surgery (also called artificial disc replacement or total disc arthroplasty) is a type of spinal surgery done to treat chronic back or neck pain caused by a damaged spinal disc.
Normally, spinal discs act like cushions between the bones (vertebrae) in your spine, absorbing shock and allowing movement. If a disc is worn out, herniated, or severely degenerated, it can cause persistent pain, stiffness, or nerve problems.
