The list of potential witnesses who have been enriched by Trump is long and raises serious ethical concerns about improper influence and possible witness tampering.
Take former Trump attorney Michael Cohen, who is expected to be a star prosecution witness. Despite pleading guilty to campaign finance violations and other crimes, Cohen landed a $2 million book deal and was hired to produce a TV show and podcast - all after turning on his former boss.
Then there's Trump's former fixer and National Enquirer publisher David Pecker, who was granted immunity from prosecution. Pecker's company was later hired by a firm tied to Trump's allies for a lucrative business deal.
Even Stormy Daniels, the adult film star at the center of the hush money case, received over $1 million from Trump's associates to write a memoir about their alleged affair after threatening to go public.
And former Trump Organization executive Allen Weisselberg, who pleaded guilty in the NY tax fraud case, was given a lavish $500,000 payout by the Trump family after his cooperation was secured.
Legal experts warn these financial rewards from Trump's orbit create, at minimum, the appearance of improper influence over witness testimony. As former prosecutor Neama Rahmani stated, "It looks like witness tampering."
Even if not outright bribes, the benefits could be seen as Trump "putting money in witnesses' pockets" to secure favorable accounts or silence damaging revelations.
Also, Trump campaign staffers received suspicious raises and promotions around key legal events, like one aide whose monthly pay doubled from $26,000 to $53,500.
So as Trump's criminal trials move forward, all eyes will be on whether these lucrative payouts and business deals taint the credibility of witnesses and undermine the pursuit of justice.
