Hognose Snake Loves Toads!

Описание: Last thing I expected was a full grown Eastern Hognose Snake (Heterodon platirhinos)! This snake was sitting right out in the open while I was filming a herping video about turtles. Hognose snakes look similar to rattlesnakes and many people fear and kills these snakes, thinking they are venomous. Hognose snakes are not dangerous snakes to humans but they do have a mild venom, more of a toxic saliva that is adapted to counteract toad poison and also neutralize their prey. They deliver their venom from the rear of their mouth using teeth to "chew" or open wounds for the venom to seep in. They are somewhat refered to as rear fanged snakes. This Eastern Hognose (also called the Spreading Adder and Puff Adder, Blouser, Blower snake and "Bastard Rattlesnake") snake is about 26 inches long, medium brown with drk brown spots along it's back. There are many species in the Heterodon genus, the two main ones being the Eastern Hognose and the Western Hognose. #herping #snakes #hognosesnake
