The Wenchi Municipal Assembly in the Bono Region has distributed 22,346 packs of sanitary pads to basic school girls as part of efforts to improve school attendance and promote menstrual hygiene.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Gloria Opoku Gyamfi, explained that the initiative is aimed at boosting girls’ confidence, reducing absenteeism, and preventing school dropouts caused by period-related challenges.
The Municipal Girl-Child Coordinator, Madam Rose Osei Mensah, also called on education stakeholders to support the girl-child by addressing challenges such as lack of changing rooms in schools and financial difficulties faced by parents. She further urged communities to protect young girls from harassment and abuse.
Beneficiary pupils expressed appreciation for the support, describing it as timely and helpful in helping them stay in school.
