সরকারের সঙ্গে আলাপ-আলোচনা করে ভাস্কর্য নিয়ে উদ্ভূত সমস্যার সমাধান চায় হেফাজতে ইসলাম বাংলাদেশ। আলেমরা এ বিষয়ে প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার সঙ্গে বৈঠক করার জন্য চেষ্টা করে যাচ্ছেন। বৃহস্পতিবার রাজধানীর সেগুনবাগিচায় ঢাকা রিপোর্টার্স ইউনিটিতে আয়োজিত সংবাদ সম্মেলনে হেফাজতে ইসলামের পক্ষ থেকে এ কথা জানানো হয়। সাংবাদিকদের প্রশ্নের জবাবে হেফাজতে ইসলামের নেতা ও বেফাকের মহাসচিব মাওলানা মাহফুজুল হক বলেন, ‘সরকারের কাছে আহ্বান জানাচ্ছি এবং চেষ্টা করে যাচ্ছি। সরকারের সঙ্গে আলাপ–আলোচনার মধ্যে দিয়েই এই সমস্যার সমাধান যেন সুন্দরভাবে সমাপ্ত হয়।’ প্রধানমন্ত্রীর সঙ্গে বৈঠকের আগ্রহ প্রকাশের প্রেক্ষাপটে সাংবাদিকেরা জানতে চান, কবে এই বৈঠক হবে। জবাবে মাহফুজুল হক বলেন, সময় এখনো ঠিক হয়নি, যোগাযোগ চলছে। তাঁরা আশাবাদী, দ্রুত সময়ের বৈঠকের ব্যবস্থা হবে। সংবাদ সম্মেলনে লিখিত বক্তব্য উপস্থাপন করেন হেফাজতে ইসলামের নায়েবে আমির মাওলানা নূরুল ইসলাম। তিনি ভাস্কর্য বিষয়ে হেফাজতে ইসলামের আমির জুনায়েদ বাবুনগরী, যুগ্ম মহাসচিব মাওলানা মামুনুল হক এবং ইসলামী আন্দোলনের নায়েবে আমির সৈয়দ ফয়জুল করীমের নামে রাষ্ট্রদ্রোহের অভিযোগে হওয়া মামলা প্রত্যাহারের দাবি জানান। ‘সেক্যুলার শব্দের আড়ালে’ আশ্রয় নেওয়া ইসলামবিদ্বেষীদের নিয়ন্ত্রণের আহ্বান জানিয়ে নূরুল ইসলাম বলেন, অন্যথায় দেশের ধর্মপ্রাণ মানুষ এই কুচক্রী মহলকে রুখে দিতে রাস্তায় নামতে বাধ্য হবে। মাওলানা নূরুল ইসলাম বলেন, হেফাজতে ইসলাম ভাস্কর্য নির্মাণ বিষয়ে সরকারকে ইসলামের আকিদা, ইমান ও শিক্ষার বিরুদ্ধে গিয়ে পৌত্তলিকতা প্রসারের রাষ্ট্রীয় গোমরাহির পথ পরিহার করার আহ্বান জানাচ্ছে। কুষ্টিয়ায় জাতির পিতার ভাস্কর্য ভাঙার সঙ্গে জড়িত ব্যক্তিদের সুষ্ঠু তদন্তের মাধ্যমে শাস্তি চান বলে জানান মাওলানা নূরুল ইসলাম। তবে তাঁরা সন্দেহভাজন ব্যক্তিদের ছবি নিয়ে কিছু সন্দেহও প্রকাশ করেছেন। সংবাদ সম্মেলনে হেফাজতে ইসলামের যুগ্ম মহাসচিব মাওলানা মামুনুল হকসহ বিভিন্ন পর্যায়ের নেতারা উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

Hefazat leader and Befaqul Madarisil Arabia Bangladesh (BEFAQ)’s Secretary General Maulana Mahfuzul Haque said that they had requested the government for a dialogue to find a solution. Replying to a query, he said the date for the meeting with the prime minister had not been fixed yet. The party was trying to contact her and was hopeful that the meeting would be held in the fastest possible time. Hefazat's Nayeb-e-Ameer Maulana Nurul Islam, in a written statement, demanded that the government withdraw the cases against the Hefazat leaders. Asking the government to control all Islamophobes, who took refuge under the guise of “secularism”, he said otherwise religious people would take to the streets to stop this insidious quarter. He also urged the government not to go against the faith and teachings of Islam and avoid what he called the path of state-sponsored misguidance to spread paganism. Nurul Islam said they wanted punishment of those who had vandalized sculpture of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Kushtia but they had doubts about the authenticity of the video footage. On November 5, an under construction sculpture of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was vandalized in Kushtia. Police have arrested four people in this connection. Meanwhile, the debate over sculpture gained momentum when Hefazat leaders threatened to throw Bangabandhu's sculpture into the Buriganga. However, the Awami League and other political parties along with socio-cultural organizations have continued their protests against the anti-sculpture groups. On December 5, the Muktijuddho Mancha decided to file a sedition case against Mamunul Haque, joint secretary general of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh, and Faizul Karim, nayeb-e-ameer of Islami Andolan Bangladesh, for opposing the installation of the sculpture of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
