In Tajweed, Huruf e Madha (Letters of Madd) are the three "long vowel" letters used to prolong or stretch a sound during Quranic recitation.
The Three Letters
The letters of Madd are Alif (ا), Waw (و), and Ya (ي). They only become "Madd letters" under specific conditions:
Alif Maddah: An Alif preceded by a letter with a Fatha (zabar).
Example: بَا (Baa)
Waw Maddah: A Waw Sakin (waw with a sukoon/jazm) preceded by a letter with a Dammah (pesh).
Example: بُوْ (Buu)
Ya Maddah: A Ya Sakin preceded by a letter with a Kasrah (zeer).
Example: بِى (Bee)
Pronunciation Rule
When these conditions are met, the sound is elongated for the duration of one Alif or two Harakahs (roughly 2 seconds or the time it takes to open two fingers from a closed fist). This is known as Madd Asli (Original Madd).

Standing Movements: Standing Fatha (Khari Zabar), Standing Kasrah (Khari Zeer), and Inverted Dammah (Ulta Pesh) are also stretched for the same duration as Huruf e Madha.
Makhraj: The articulation point for these letters is the empty space of the mouth and throat (Al-Jawf)
