What Does the Extrude Surface Command Do?

The extrude surface command is used to stretch curves into 3D space, creating solids or surfaces. You can extrude open curves, which create surfaces, and closed curves, which create solids.

You can also extrude the geometry along a path. The path can be an arc, line, polyline or spline. The path must not be on the same plane as the geometry that you are extruding.

Depending on the direction of the extrude, you can also choose to taper the surface with respect to a plane perpendicular to the profile. The positive value of the taper angle makes the surface taper inside the profile, while the negative values make the surfaces taper outside the profile.

In some cases you may want to extrude a profile along a curved edge, and in those cases you can do so by using the sweep 1 rail option. This option is similar to the extrude surface command, except that it uses two curves (rails) to define the edges of the profile.

There are several ways to detach or join a surface, but one of the easiest is to use the connect surfaces option. This option extends the surfaces till they connect, allowing you to create a single surface through a few profile curves (rails).

In addition, there are a number of tools for converting a surface into curves. These include the extract wireframe tool, which transforms all visible isocurves and edges into curves.
