As the sun rose, Lot arrived in Zoar. God rained burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah, destroying the cities and the entire plain. Lot’s wife looked back and became a pillar of salt. Abraham saw smoke rising from the land, but God spared Lot because of Abraham’s intercession.
Later, Lot left Zoar and lived in a cave with his two daughters. Believing no men were left to continue their family line, the daughters made Lot drunk on two separate nights and slept with him. Both became pregnant. The older daughter bore Moab (ancestor of the Moabites), and the younger bore Ben-Ammi (ancestor of the Ammonites).
