Rhapsody In Blue, a timeless piece that manages to thrill even those with the basest of music tastes. Every budget label of the '50s and '60s seems to have had a Rhapsody In Blue album of some sort. This album was issued on Halo records, which was an Oberstein owned label.
Oberstein owned a rather large family of budget record labels in the '50s. This album is a prime example of how he operated, he first issued material on Royale and then later issued it on labels such as Varsity, Halo, Gramophone, Ultraphonic, Concertone, and a couple other labels. One of the common practices he had with albums was to press one side from one album, and then a different set of music from another album on the second side.
This album's first side, which features Rhapsody In Blue, came from Royale 1680, and the second side came from Gramophone release 20104. This album is Halo records 50104, coming from the same catalog as the Gramophone budget label. In case that made no sense to you, just look up "Royale Oberstein" and you can learn all about this guy's (Oberstein) record company.
This is not restored, it will require me to work on the pops, which would take a while. My goal is to share these albums, so spending a lot of time on one album just will not do.
