In his talk Mirek argues that quantum computing introduces a genuine paradigm shift in software development: one that AI code generation cannot solve on its own. Quantum programming requires human judgment and mental models in problem framing, de novo algorithm creation, and exploiting analogies to the extent that no automated tool can fully capture. Human agency: curiosity, responsibility, and stewardship – is therefore the decisive factor in making quantum technologies useful, reliable, and aligned with human goals. Entrepreneurial scientist and quantum physicist with a PhD in computational chemistry. He founded MakoLab S.A., a software company listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange, and several startups including Chemical Semantics, LEI.INFO (USA) and Quantum Blockchains (EU). He currently serves as CEO of MakoLab USA and Quantum Blockchains, and chairs the Supervisory Board of MakoLab S.A.
Since 2020, he has also served as Chairman of the University Council at Lodz University of Technology.
His work spans symbolic AI, quantum information and cryptography, secure digital identity and blockchains with several publications and two patents to his name.
Outside of science and business, he is a passionate canoeist and runs a small publishing house focused on unconventional biblical translations. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
