This was our very own version of the battle of kruger. We arrived at Shitlhave dam in the early morning. As we arrived we noticed a large herd of buffalo and a few cars parked off. The way they were parked looked like there was something more to the sighting. A lady told us that lions had just manage to catch a calf from the herd. Our car was a bit lower and we struggled to see clearly. There was a stand off between the lions and buffalo. Chasing each other from time to time. The lions were very reluctant to leave and we knew they wanted to go back for the dead calf. Not knowing exactly where the calf was left we were surprised when one of the young male lions emerged with the calf between some rocks. As all of this action was unfolding a large herd of elephants appeared from the dam wall. The elephants picked up on the sound of lions feeding and decided to go and investigate. They did not like what they came across and chased the lions in all directions. This was a truly once in a life time experience. The animal interaction was amazing to witness.
