The title of the sermon is “The righteousness of God“.

There are many people who have a zeal of God (a knowledge of Him or even a desire to serve Him), but who are not saved and are still on their way to an eternity without Christ.

The scriptures confirm that there are 2 forms of righteousness, our own (mans) and God’s.

Man’s righteousness sees Jesus as the gateway to Heaven, which we will enter only IF we live a good (righteous) life. Man sees belief in Jesus as enough, as long as we live right after getting to learn about Him. This is not true belief in Jesus, this is self-righteousness

When we are saved, we turn away from our sin and towards God, and this includes turning from our own righteousness to accept, in its place, God’s righteousness. That is the only way we can be seen to be as righteous as God, when we accept His righteousness at the moment of salvation.

If it our own works that could get us into Heaven then the glory would be due to us and not God, in effect saying that God would “owe” us entry into Heaven because we worked so hard to get there.

On the other hand, if we truly believe in Jesus and His finished work on the cross, God, in effect, credits us with His own righteousness, thereby giving us access into Heaven.
