P&O Iona Norwegian Fjords cruise - Viking homeland, Haugesund - Episode 6

Описание: Join us in our final port of call, Haugesund. Haugesund, homeland of the Viking kings and birthplace of Norway.

This is our fourth port of call onboard the beautiful P&O Iona as we set sail for a 7 night Norwegian Fjords. On the Norway Cruise we will call at Stavanger, Olden, Hellesylt for Geirangerfjord and Haugesund.

In this episode, we arrive in Haugesund and visit the Viking village!

We start the day off with with breakfast in the Keel & Cow, before heading on a P&O excursion to the Viking village. This P&O excursion cost us £70 per person for a half day excursion.

We start our excursion at Avaldsnes Church. Outside the church you will find the virgin Mary’s sewing needle, this is the last of five monumental stones that once formed part of the heathen place of worship, it is believed that should the monument ever touch the wall of the church then doomsday will come! As it stands there’s only 9cms clearance, we are 9 CMs from doomsday!

Next, we were shown the ruins of a medieval royal manor that was once connected to the church. After exploring the church, we made our way over to the historic centre.

The walk from the historic centre and church over to the Viking farm wasn’t too strenuous, however the path is made of gravel and uneven so bare this in mind if you have mobility issues.

Exploring the Viking farm was loads of fun, it really is like stepping back in time, even the guides were dressed in period clothing for that added touch of authenticity, it really is fantastic. First, we took a look at the long house, then we explored the herb garden and livestock enclosures before making our way around various pitch houses a round house and then finally a cart house and log shed.

Back onboard P&O Iona we help a Cruise Monkeys Facebook and Patreon meet up in the Crows Nest. It was lovely to be able to sit down and have a proper chat.

We paid £997pp for our P&O Norwegian Fjords cruise and booked with   / martinsholidayvillage   - This was a Select fare and included Parking and £210 onboard credit.
