How a 17 year old Senior Cat Plays (and a 14 yr old too!) | Caturday

Описание: Do senior cats play? Of course! 17 year old Riles LOVES to play and surprisingly never gets tired of his favourite chasing wand toy. Not bad for 84 (cat years).

You might think Riles would/should play less since he has arthritis and has a limp. He also has high blood pressure and stage 2 kidney disease which is a chronic condition. But the vet says keeping up his activity is healthy. Very important, in fact!

Chester (14 yrs old) usually waits until Riles is tired out before he will engage. Which is good because he's got nearly 5 pounds on Riles and Riles isn't that steady on his legs anymore.

The younger, bigger cat is more a pouncer than a chaser. With more explosive energy that requires longer rest periods.

Either way, both get plenty of daily exercise, three or four times a day, to protect mobility, keep their joint function and have fun. Also prevents aggression between the cats (and towards humans some times!)

Afterwards, I will give them their meals or treats and then they are ready for some good naps and cuddles.

--About Riles--
Riles is our 17 year old rescue cat. We adopted him from the wonderful Calgary Humane Society in December 2018 to live here in his all-inclusive, tres exclusive kitty retirement home. So exclusive that it's just for him...and now, also for Chester. Two senior cat residents, two "staff members".

Chester is our 14 year old long-haired tuxedo cat. We adopted him from the same place in December 2019.
