Departmental Seminar 27/4/16:
In this seminar Caroline Sarojini Hart opened a discussion, drawing on her research informed by the work of both Amartya Sen and Pierre Bourdieu. Her Sen-Bourdieu Analytical Framework was introduced alongside more recent work in which she seeks to integrate Social Quality Theory with the capability approach, and Bourdieu, in order to generate a theoretical lens which accounts for individual and social human development. The session will be of interest to those experienced and familiar with the work of Sen and Bourdieu as well as to newer researchers with emerging interests related to education and notions of social justice.
Caroline drew on work from her Aspirations, Education & Social Justice book (London, Bloomsbury) as well as a new paper available by OA in Cambridge Journal of Education entitled, The School Food Plan and the Social Context of Food in Schools (available online now and in print from June 2016). The first relates to the Sen-Bourdieu Analytical Framework and the latter to the use of Social Quality Theory in combination with the capability approach.
