Spring Festival in China looks different in every city.
In Yangjiang, a coastal city in Guangdong Province, the celebration connects directly to history. From the 800-year-old “Nanhai No. 1” shipwreck of the Maritime Silk Road to living craft traditions in an ancient village, this trip reveals a side of southern China that feels both old and very alive.
In this episode, I attend a Guangdong cultural and tourism gala, explore the Maritime Silk Road Museum, try Yangjiang’s famous oysters, experience traditional character printing, and receive a knife — a surprisingly symbolic New Year gift.
This is Spring Festival through the lens of trade, craftsmanship, and coastal culture.
📍 Locations featured:

If you’re curious about how China’s past still shapes its present, this is a fascinating place to start.
