This short video tutorial will show you how to polish your silver flatware at home. You will need silver polish. I recommend Hagerty Silver Polish as it produces and nice polish and it is not too abrasive. In addition, you will need 100% cotton t-shirt or flannel pajamas for rags. (Synthetic fabrics and terry cloth towels are too abrasive.) Microfiber towels are good for drying and they are not scratchy. Wash your flatware with a soft sponge and dishwashing detergent. Rince with clean water. Wear disposable gloves or dishwashing gloves to avoid getting your hands dirty with silver polish.
Do not put your silver flatware in the dishwasher. The stainless steel liner and dishwashing soap will make your silver flatware dull and lifeless. Never put your sterling silver knives in the dishwasher. The extended hot water and heated drying cycle may ruin your knifes by pushing out the blades. Yes, they can be repaired, but it will be a significant expense that you could have avoided.
