The sleeper stretch is a great stretch if you have a stiff shoulder. Many people develop a tight posterior capsule in their shoulders. In other words, their ligaments in the back of their shoulder joint get stiff. This can push their humeral head, or the top part of their upper arm bone forward. This stresses the front of the shoulder and rotator cuff. Over time, this may even lead to a serious injury if the posterior capsule is constantly tight.
What is great about the sleeper stretch is that it is a very easy way that you can stretch the posterior capsule of the shoulder. To do it, you lay on one side. Then place your shoulder and elbow at a 90 degree angle. Then you internally rotate your arm that is on the bed until you feel a stretch. Hold that stretch for 30 seconds and do it 5 times. You should not feel pain while doing this stretch. Performing the sleeper stretch will allow you to loosen up stiff shoulders and stretch your posterior capsule, which will help in preventing you from getting a shoulder injury.
