During our trip to Taiwan in 2024, we took a day trip from Taipei to the nearby towns of Shifen and Jiufen. It was a nice change of pace from the city.
In Shifen, we enjoyed a scenic walk to see the waterfall. Afterward, we did a lantern release on the train tracks before checking out the shops on the street. We tried a rice-filled chicken wing and watched as the trains passed by.
In Jiufen, we spent the time exploring the many shops lining the alley ways and tried several different treats including beef noodle soup and taro ball soup. The highlight was stopping at a beautiful tea house and enjoying a pot of tea. On clear days, the tea house has an excellent view of the coast.
