Conditional formatting in Excel is a feature that automatically applies formatting—such as colours, icons, or data bars—to cells based on their values.
It helps us to easily identify patterns in our data.
Highlighting Cells
To apply conditional formatting:
1. Select the Linkrange of cells
2. On the Home Tab, under Styles Group, select Conditional Formatting
3. Click Highlight Cell Rules
4. Select desired rule
5. Enter the desired value and select the formatting style
6. Click ok
Using Formulas
Formulas that apply conditional formatting must return True or False
To apply conditional formatting using a formula:
1. Select the range of cells where you want to apply conditional formatting.
2. On the Home tab, under Styles Group, click Conditional Formatting.
3. Click New Rule.
4. Select ‘Use a formula to determine which cells to format‘.
5. Enter the formula.
6. Select a formatting style and click OK.
To clear formatting:
1. Select the range of cells that have conditional formatting
2. Go to Home tab -- Styles Group -- Conditional Formatting
3. Click Clear Rules -- Clear Rules from Selected Cells
