" William Penn Adair Rogers (November 4, 1879 – August 15, 1935) was a Native American vaudeville performer, actor, and humorous social commentator. He was born as a citizen of the Cherokee Nation, in the Indian Territory (now part of Oklahoma), and is known as "Oklahoma's Favorite Son". As an entertainer and humorist, he traveled around the world three times, made 71 films (50 silent films and 21 "talkies"), and wrote more than 4,000 nationally syndicated newspaper columns. By the mid-1930s, Rogers was hugely popular in the United States for his leading political wit and was the highest paid of Hollywood film stars. He died in 1935 with aviator Wiley Post when their small airplane crashed in northern Alaska." (Wikipedia)
Will Rogers who has had many beaches and state parks named after him had a reputation as being one of the top trick rodeo ropers of all time.
This featured video contains a clip from the movie titled "David Harum".
When a guest at the dinner table makes the statement "Cleveland will ruin the country with his new fangled idea" Rogers responds “No. This country is bigger than any man or any party. They couldn’t ruin it even if they tried.”
This is my favorite Will Rogers quote.
Horace Heidt's Swift Show Wagon toured the United States in 1955. Each show saluted a state and showcased famous people from that state. This show saluted the great state of Oklaholma and as guest stars presented Will Rogers and his son Will Rogers Jr. . The young lady who introduced the show is Reita Green. This was Horace Heidt's last network television show before he retired from television. The show also featured talented newcomers from all over the country. Having two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Horace is credited with having the first travelling televised talent show.
