We spent a few hours exploring Old Town Bratislava, Slovakia and the Bratislava Castle.
Bratislava, Slovakia is the fourth largest city on the Danube River, and borders both Austria and Hungary. It is the capital of Slovakia and the seat of the Slobvak president and parliament.
Bratislava is only about 45 minutes from Vienna, and we were only there for a few hours - it makes a nice stop between a drive from Vienna and Prague. Even though we had limited time, we decided to walk up to Bratislava Castle, which was only about a 10 minute walk from Old Town.
Bratislava Castle was first constructed on the same hill in the 10th century, although the hill site has been inhabited for centuries before. The current castle was built in 1649, although it burned down and was partially rebuilt in the 1950s. It also houses the Slovak National Museum.
Even if you have a few hours, Old Town Bratislava is not very large and is a great place to explore and get something to eat. It's worth it to walk up to the castle and learn the history of the country. If I were to go back, I'd love to spend a few days minimum in Bratislava — because it is such an underrated but beautiful city.
