Marginal Visual Flight Rules (MVFR) are a set of rules that pilots must follow when flying in weather conditions with lower visibility and more limited cloud coverage. According to FAA guidelines, MVFR conditions typically happen when the visibility is between three to five miles, and the ceiling, which is the height that weather phenomena such as clouds obscure an area, is between 1,000 to 3,000 feet. Under MVFR conditions, pilots must be able to see the runway and any obstructions clearly.
