After putting the first 25 hours on the freshly rebuilt R22 Beta 2 helicopter I ferried it from Murphy, NC to GKT. I did my pre-flight weather briefing and knew it wasn't going to let me all the way around the mountain all at once but knew that there were a lot of good landing options to go to when I did have to land.
After making a precautionary landing due to the rain and decreasing visibility (owner didn't want it flown in the rain due to paint wear on the blades) I made safe decision and landed in a field and sat our the rain showers. Periodically I called my cousin and gave me the go/no go call on when the weather was clear the rest of the way to GKT.
On the return trip I decided to climb high over the Smoky Mountain National Park. Climbed up to 13,200 ft and then came right back down to normal cruising.
